A massive national park located on the Olympic Peninsula, Olympic National Park has three major zones: the Pacific coastline, the temperate rainforest and the Olympic Mountains. Each of these areas have distinct features and attractions, ranging from beach access to mountain ascents to rapid-filled rivers. For sights of the towering mountains, take a trip up to Hurricane Ridge during the summer, where the winding, scenic road provides awe-inspiring sights of the surrounding range. The Deer Park mountain road provides equally amazing sights, though the harsh gravel road that comprises the final stretch of the path makes the spot less popular with the casual visitor. Don't miss a tour through the verdant forests that edge up against both sides of the mountain range. Many miles of hiking trails wind through these lush, densely wooded areas, providing a rich wilderness experience. The park also contains 73 miles of Pacific Ocean coastline, including the Mora, Rialto and Kalaloch beaches which provide sandy destinations for families to relax and play. A large majority of the park is centered around the Olympic Mountain range, but the coastline portion of the park is separate from the rest of the park, about 10 miles west of this main region at the closest point.
